Leitner Varughese Warywoda is proud to stand alongside NYS Assemblyman Ron Kim, nursing home advocates Voices for Seniors, TV Host and advocate Janice Dean, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, and other advocates for proper and humane treatment for nursing home residents, to unveil and support the "Justice for Nursing Home Victims Act".
The proposed law will include a $4 Billion Victims Compensation Fund and amendments to NYS's unjust "Wrongful Death" definition and necessary "Statute of Limitations" extensions.
The "Justice for Nursing Home Victims Act" is intended to provide greater safeties and improved care to our most vulnerable citizens, and will reinstate the lawful rights of these grieving families to seek justice for the thousands of needless and negligent deaths. These bills will afford victims’ families their day in court to hold negligent nursing home owners and operators accountable, and will also establish a Victim Compensation Fund to provide due compensation for the families of those residents killed as a result of COVID-19 in New York nursing homes.
We are grateful for the opportunity to advocate for these grieving families and pursue justice on behalf of the thousands of nursing home residents who needlessly suffered and prematurely passed away.
